I just heard one of my favorite guys on the planet say the most profound thing....It was Judah Smith. He said, "Don't let your preaching get better than your living!" It was a quote from his dad, a pastor for decades.

That statement is powerful and amazing. It really is something that many pastors struggle with. Too often our preaching is better then our real life. We tend to sensationalize our lives with an on stage persona and create a false front. Many times we appear great on stage, when in fact, our lives are in shambles. In reality we should be living great lives and letting our lives improve our preaching!

Thankfully God has helped safeguard this in my life. I married an amazing woman who would never allow me to do this....She keeps me humble (in a healthy way) and honest! But, if it weren't for her and other great men in my life who press into me, I would likely fail in this. Why? Because it is founded in one of mankind's greatest struggles....PRIDE!

A few years ago one of my mentors showed me a verse that I have never been able to forget. A verse that challenges this very concept. And, a verse that tells me that if I do this well...I won't just protect myself, but everyone who hears me preach...That's an incredible challenge to me. Hopefully this verse will do the same for you.

"Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." 1 Timothy 4:16

How's your preaching....Is it better than you living?
